Fall 2017 issue of the Lyme Times
The latest issue of the Lyme Times is now available.
In our cover story, our CEO Lorraine Johnson discusses how the CDC’s reported numbers of Lyme cases don’t match figures that come from other sources. Canine cases, physician referrals, and the MyLymeData registry all paint a very different picture.
David Michael Conner writes about “What the media don’t tell you about Lyme disease (but should).”
And Lonnie Marcum summarizes Dr. Raj Patel’s presentation about dealing with Lyme disease and mold illness at the same time.
Other stories in this issue include:
- You Are Not Alone Anymore: Jesse Ruben’s Battle with Lyme Disease
- 5300-Year-Old “Iceman” Is First Recorded Case of Lyme Disease
- Why are Physically Sick Children Labeled as Mentally Ill?
- A Teenager’s Story: Born with Lyme Disease, Finally on Road to Recovery.
- Update on New York State Senate’s Recent Lyme Disease Hearing
And much more.

I am a Long term Lyme sufferer. I am having extreme fatigue and muscle pains, weakness in my hands and legs.I also have a shooting burning pain in the back of my heel. I’ve had a great deal of trouble with being hot and cold, though Hormones and Thyroid tests do not detect anything. (Background: I was diagnosed in 1995 (42 years old) with a wonderful, thorough Lyme doctor who discovered from not only blood tests, but by carefully going over my medical history that I have had Lyme since I was a teenager (an active person who suddenly, at times, couldn’t walk or raise my arms). I have treated many times and the most recent (a couple of years ago) was my first time with IV after a spinal tap revealed bands in my Brain. I know Lyme tests are not reliable but I feel I should try to test for Lyme and Babesiosis.
What are the most reliable tests and which lab should I use ?
We recommend that you be evaluated for Lyme and co-infections by an ILADS-affiliated practitioner. (www.ilads.org)
I am afraid of losing my sister to late-stage Lyme. The only reason she’s able to function is by opiate pain mgt which is being forced down to as low as possible. Forced pain management is Not an agreement, and when an untreated-[antibiotics], patient is in horrific pain and take another pill, they are dismissed. Also, her anti-anxiety benzo is also-simultaneously is forced-reduced as well, it is a set-up for suicide, as no-one can sustain 24/7 torture w/o relief. Today, my sisters new primary said that NYS HAS TO Follow CDC morphine 90mg equivalent oxycodone which = < than 50mg/day. Is this True ? I am on 60mg/day and I want to die. No-one mentions the fact that opiates, benzos, and ADHD meds have already been secretly reduced of active ingredient by up-to 40%. Also, and covertly, the "opiates" and ADHD meds are inauthentic, misrepresented, and have contained heavy metals which incurred 4 Dr appts, and it's not over. I have returned 14 adhd meds and tried 4 manufacturers of oxycodone, one of which I returned as it nearly gave me an aneursym, my sister-a near stroke. I have contacted by fax Senator Gillibrand, Anne Marie T Sullivan, and many others to no avail. The CDC isn't qualified to create this measure against doctors judgment. Is it true that NYS has to reduce to the insane amount of 50mg/day ? Please Help !!!
